Golden Ring of Russia. 17 Facts

We've been to some of the Golden Ring towns last weekend and will share with you some of the golden moments of our fabulous trip. This is a fantastic route and we recommend it to anyone who wants to be amazed with Russian heritage. 

Facts about Golden Ring. Fact 1.

Golden Ring of Russia is a fantastic touristy route passing through the ancient Russian cities that are the center of folk crafts and have preserved the unique monuments of history and culture of Russia.
























Fact 2.

Gold ring consists of eight major cities - Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir.

















Fact 3. 
Rostov the Great is a gem of the Golden Ring. The Rostov Kremlin (1670 – 1683 гг.) is the pride of whole Russia and the national heritage.
















Fact 4. 
Rostov is the oldest city in Russia, supposedly being founded in 862.

The Rostov chimes are the World Culture Heritage. The Bells are a unique set of musical works of XVII-XIX centuries. Each of its 13 bells has its own special touch. The largest bell weighs 32 tons..
















Fact 6. 
Myshkin is a unique city of the Golden Ring, a bit isolated from the classic Golden Ring of Russia, but has always attracted tourists with its originality. Myshkin was founded in 1777.
















Fact 7. 
According to a legend, a prince was resting on the bank of the Volga, and got suddenly awoken by a mouse running over his face. Angry at first, he then realized that the mouse had saved him from a snake crawling next to him. That's why the city is called «Mouse’s» - in Russia - Myshkin.

Myshkin boasts the world's only museum of Mouse (a collection of various images, mouse toys, glassware, sculpture, etc..). In August 2008, in the city for the second time passed the international festival "Mouse 2008" with the opening of the "Mouse Palace”.
















Fact 9.
The town of Myshkin impresses with its historical and Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, which includes 16 traditional folk buildings: houses, barns, forges, baths, windmill. 



















Fact 10. 
1)      According to archaeological research, a settlement on the site of the Uglich Kremlin has been settled since  V-VI centuries, which seems to be the oldest settlement in Russia. Uglich was founded in the year 937.















Fact 11. 
In the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Uglich was buried Prince Dimitry, the son of Ivan the Terrible (in 1606 his remains were moved to Moscow). Temple has is 14 meters wide and 17 meters high. That was an outstanding architectural achievement of the time.
















Fact 12. 
Pereslavl and Moscow city were founded by the same prince – Yury Dolgorukiy. Here in Pereslavl in 1220 was born the legendary Alexander Nevsky, the founder of the dynasty of Muscovy princes and the great patron of the Orthodox Church.










Fact 13. 
Pereslavl town is famous for one of the first white stone temples of the North-Eastern Russia, that have come down to us almost completely preserved. 













Fact 14. 
At the end of the XVII century, it was in Pereslavl where Peter I started the so-called "amusing flotilla" that marked the beginning of the Russian Navy 







Fact 15. 
Golden Ring of Russia presents all the stages of development of ancient Russian architecture: the majestic white-stone churches of 12-13 centuries, the tents of 16th century...






















Fact 16. 
Cities and towns of the "Golden Ring of Russia" are called an outstanding encyclopedia of ancient Russian architecture.






















Fact 17. The last one. 
There are a lot of wonderful sightseeing and hiking tracks in Russia. Apart from the Golden Ring, there are Silver Ring of Urals and the great Trans-Siberian Railway.
